Many children get a little scared at the dentist. There are lots of unfamiliar sights and sounds, and some treatments can be uncomfortable or painful. Whether your child needs help calming his fears or is just fidgety on the day of her visit, Dentistry for Children Utah has a variety of sedation options to make every patient and every visit more comfortable.

Sedation is used to help patients relax more than to control pain. Many sedatives are quite mild. We often use nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, a sedative inhaled during treatment that relaxes the body and mind. Some patients feel lightness and giddiness (hence the name.) It can suppress sensitive gag reflexes and make time seem to pass faster. It doesn’t interrupt communication between doctor and patient, and its effects wear off quickly after the procedure.

We also offer more serious sedation in oral and IV forms. Oral sedation is administered in a drink taken in our office before the treatment starts. Intravenous sedation is a standard IV closely monitored throughout the treatment. Medication can be adjusted as needed. We also offer general sedation and numbing.

All forms of sedation at Dentistry for Children Utah are safe for children. Our staff is very highly trained and knowledgeable. The right sedation option is available for your child’s needs.
